Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi told to make ‘dreams come true’ with surprise transfer
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been told it would be a ‘dream come true’ for the two superstars to finish their careers together.
The former Tottenham and Portsmouth star Pedro Mendes suggested the footballing icons – rivals during their decade-plus stints at Barcelona and Real Madrid – should curtail their legendary careers on the same team.
While the Argentine making the move stateside to join Inter Miami last year, the Portugal skipper sparked the explosion of the Saudi Pro League by signing for Al-Nassr after departing Manchester United for the second time.
While it’s very much likely the pair will see out their careers at their respective clubs, that hasn’t stopped Mendes – who played alongside Ronaldo at the 2010 World Cup – from suggesting his former international team-mate join the David Beckham-owned club to play alongside Messi.
Speaking to BoyleSports who offer the latest Premier League betting, Mendes said: “If Cristiano Ronaldo joined Inter Miami it would be amazing for the fans and incredible for football in America. It would mean that the two best players in the history and future of football, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi would finish their careers together which would be a dream come true.
“However, I can’t see it happening. It would be very difficult.”
Ronaldo, 39, was recently bounced out of Euro 2024 following a penalty shoot-out defeat against France in the quarter-finals.
During the tournament, Ronaldo had revealed that this was in fact his last European Championships but did hint he’d continue playing for Portugal after this summer in a thank you message to the Selecao fans after their defeat to France.
“We wanted more. We deserved more. For us. For each one of you. For Portugal,” he wrote on Instagram. “We are grateful for everything you have given us and for everything we have achieved so far. On and off the field, I am sure that this legacy will be honoured and will continue to be built. Together”.
