Liverpool squad: Confirmed shirt numbers for
It’s a summer of change for Liverpool following Jurgen Klopp’s exit, with potential movement in the team’s squad numbers as well.
Arne Slot will oversee his debut campaign as Reds head coach in 2024/25 and will be keen to rely on the familiar fan favourites at Anfield. The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Alisson should all be wearing red next season.
However, Liverpool fans will be dreaming of a few additions to a star-studded roster in the summer transfer market, while the exceptional youngsters who caught the eye last term could get a promotion when it comes to their shirt numbers.
Here are the Liverpool numbers for the 2024/25 season.

Liverpool are yet to officially confirm their squad numbers for the 2024/25 season, meaning there could be alterations before now and the beginning of the campaign. However, there is unlikely to be major movement in terms of players already at the club.
Having said that, there is the possibility that some of the club’s blossoming academy products take new numbers. The likes of Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley and Stefan Bajcetic could all be due an upgrade.

Liverpool are not expected to be too busy in the transfer market ahead of Slot’s first season at the helm, but there is always the possibility of new recruits. The Reds will surely bring in at least one fresh face before the transfer window shuts.
There are plenty of numbers available to incomers too. Thiago’s Anfield exit and subsequent retirement means the number six is available, which could be inherited by a new centre-back or defensive midfielder.
All numbers between and including 12-16, 22-25 and 27-37 are free. Adrian’s departure means the unlucky number 13 is available, while Joel Matip’s exit means the unorthodox number 32 is also vacant.
What numbers can Premier League players wear?
Technically, players can don any number between 1 and 99 in Premier League matches, although unlike in countries like Turkey and Italy, first-team players generally opt for the lowest number available that fits their position.
There are exceptions, of course. Trent Alexander-Arnold still boasts the number 66 jersey he wore when breaking into the Liverpool first team, while the last two incumbents of the number three shirt haven’t been left backs, with Wataru Endo and Fabinho owning that number.
Premier League players can change their squad numbers, but only at specific points in the year. Clubs must confirm their squad numbers at the beginning of the campaign, usually shortly after the summer transfer window slams shut.
After that point, players can’t change their numbers again until the end of the January transfer window, and they can only do so then if they’re changing clubs or inheriting a shirt from someone who has left the club they already play at.
