Portugal coach Roberto Martinez confirmed that it is too early to talk about Ronaldo’s departure, after the failure at EURO 2024.

Like many other major tournaments, Cristiano Ronaldo is still Portugal’s most notable star at EURO 2024. However, the 39-year-old striker disappointed when he did not score any goals.  Ronaldo played the full 120 minutes in the loss to France  in the quarter-finals. But like previous matches, he continued to play poorly. Even in the previous win over Slovenia in the round of 16, CR7 missed a penalty.

Closing EURO 2024 in disappointment, Ronaldo left open the future of playing for the Portuguese team. Previously, Ronaldo also declared the tournament in Germany as his last EURO. Portugal coach Roberto Martinez said: “Maybe it’s still too early to talk about that (Ronaldo’s future). No personal decision has been made yet.” Similar to Ronaldo’s story, 41-year-old veteran – Pepe has not retired from the Portuguese national team. “This is not the time for me to talk about the future. I will make a decision at another time. Right now, my team and I are very sad because we were eliminated,” the former Real Madrid center-back emphasized.

Cristiano Ronaldo made his debut for Portugal in 2003. He holds the record for goals (130) and appearances (212), winning EURO 2016 and the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League. Ronaldo is one of the two oldest players for Portugal at EURO 2024, alongside Pepe (41).
