Clubs are now fighting to sign £25m Liverpool player after Reds put him up for sale
Liverpool will receive a call from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen as they want to sign a £25m player from the Reds.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that as many as six Bundesliga clubs are hoping to sign Sepp van den Berg this summer. He names Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg, Mainz and Borussia Monchengladbach are interested in the Dutchman.
The biggest name, however, is Bayer Leverkusen. The German champions are apparently in the market for Van den Berg, too, but Liverpool’s asking price is a stumbling block.

The Reds want as much as £25m for the defender – and all this competition might just see them get it.
“Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg, Mainz, M’gladbach and Leverkusen are/were all keen to sign Sepp van den Berg,” writes Plettenberg. “Some teams have made concrete offers to Liverpool for the 22 y/o defender but they were all rejected.
“Some teams still hope for a loan (Mainz). But: LFC demand £20-25m for him at this stage and they were totally happy with his performances in recent weeks.
“Future remains open. No decision yet. Contract valid until 2026.”
Sepp van den Berg’s future
It’s not just German clubs that want Van den Berg. PSV Eindhoven have been heavily linked with the player and were once again on Thursday.
There was a delay in any talks for Van den Berg with Liverpool needing him for their tour of the US but now he’s back, things are expected to move quickly. And that could see PSV selling a player in order to match Liverpool’s price.
But Leverkusen’s interest could change everything. If they’re willing to offer Van den Berg regular football, their offer will trump everyone else’s and could end up swaying things.
Van den Berg spent last season on loan in Germany and made a big impression. That’s now clear as day with Bundesliga sides lining up to sign him.
