Arsenal still in ‘active talks’ to sign Spanish Euro 2024 winner
Premier League giants Arsenal are continuing to work towards closing a deal for a leading member of the midfield ranks at Real Sociedad.
That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Mikel Merino as the player in question.
The name of midfielder Merino, of course, took its place front and centre in the media headlines across Spain late last month.
As much came after word was forthcoming that the 28-year-old was all set to make the move to England, with Arsenal.
The move was widely labelled as something of a formality, with Merino himself more than eager to link up with fellow countryman Mikel Arteta in north London.
And yet, several weeks on, little has been reported regarding developments in the Gunners’ pursuit.
Inevitable chatter surrounding a potential standstill in negotiations, in turn, has begun to spread in Spain and England alike…
In truth, though, those of an Arsenal persuasion need not fret.
This comes with the brass at The Emirates still in constant contact with their counterparts at Real Sociedad, in efforts to push a final agreement over the line.
As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Arsenal remain in active talks to complete Mikel Merino deal, more steps to follow. Merino has agreed on personal terms with Arsenal, clubs keep working on deal structure/payment terms; fee over €25m.’
