The outfit that Alejandro Garnacho chose to wear during pre-season training attracted a lot of special attention.

Garnacho appeared in the shirt of CR7’s rival club

The young MU star wore an Al-Ittihad shirt, which fans feared could upset his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.

Garnacho has publicly expressed his admiration for Ronaldo , from wearing the Portuguese superstar’s underwear brand on the pitch to naming himself “Cristiano” during a bowling match with friends.

He also made six appearances alongside his idol in the 2021/22 season, the season the Portuguese superstar returned to Old Trafford.

However, Garnacho may have raised an eyebrow at Ronaldo after posing in a shirt of Al-Ittihad, CR7’s arch-rivals Al-Nassr in the Saudi Arabian Premier League.

A fan wrote on social network X after seeing Garnacho’s image: “His idol plays for Al-Nassr, why is he wearing an Al-Ittihad shirt?”.

While another added: “Why not an Al-Nassr shirt, to cheer for your idol????”.

A third person was more negative: “Shameful”. Another commented: “He doesn’t even wear his idol’s shirt!”.

The 20-year-old is training separately at United after returning late from his summer break after winning the Copa America with Argentina. He and Facundo Pellistri, who also played in the Copa America with Uruguay, are working to regain their best fitness ahead of the new season.

Garnacho’s cryptic outfit choice has even led some fans to fear he is looking for a way out of Old Trafford. One wrote: “You want to go to Saudi!” Another added: “You’re pushing me away from United, mate.”

Garnacho scored 10 goals in all competitions last season, including as the Red Devils lifted the FA Cup at Wembley with a win over neighbours Man City.

United are currently on their pre-season tour of the United States and have started poorly with a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal. They will next face Betis in San Diego before facing rivals Liverpool in South Carolina in the final game of the tour.

Ten Hag’s side will then return to Wembley for the Community Shield against Man City on August 10.
