Ariana Grande joins the cosmetics business race, reveals new collection

Ariana Grande has officially become the CEO of Thunder Road Group – which will be responsible for producing beauty products under the REM Beauty brand…

In the October issue of Allure, singer Ariana Grande officially announced her own cosmetics brand called REM Beauty. Accordingly, this cosmetics brand will be launched in London as well as present in New York.

This is not the first time the singer has launched her own beauty product line. Previously, the owner of the hit song “Thank u, next” launched more than 10 different perfume lines and received enthusiastic reception from fans.

Ariana’s decision is not considered too surprising because looking at her predecessors like Rihanna, Lady Gaga or Selena Gomez, we can see how the cosmetics business has helped them earn huge profits. In addition, her singing career and family are both stable, it is also time for Ariana to try new challenges.

The “REM Beauty” brand was registered under the name of Thunder Road Inc., Grande’s company, which has been operating since 2020, and the web domain rembeauty.com was also registered at the same time. The brand’s product lines can include anything from concealers, lash serums, mascaras, eyeshadows, lip tints, brow pencils, lip glosses, and hair extensions.

In 2020, the cosmetics industry reached a total value of about 476 billion USD globally despite the economic difficulties caused by the pandemic. The beauty market is even forecast to grow by 6% in the period 2021 – 2026 and reach 675 billion USD in 2026. Of course, famous stars with large fan bases cannot stay out of this game.

Taking advantage of the founder’s existing reputation, celebrity cosmetic brands such as Fenty Beauty, Kylie Cosmetics and the upcoming REM Beauty do not need to spend too much money on promotional campaigns to become familiar to the public. In addition, unlike luxury goods, the prices of cosmetic products are often quite “pleasant” for fans’ wallets, making them willing to open their wallets to support their idols.

The profits that artists earn from the cosmetics business are certainly not small, as they can both increase their personal assets and increase their coverage on all media fronts. In some cases, this is also a way for stars without outstanding artistic talent like the Kardashian family to keep themselves from being forgotten by the audience.

For Ariana Grande, it seems that she doesn’t consider business as a game, but rather a serious, methodical investment plan. Immediately after announcing information about the brand, REM Beauty released a series of teasers, including images of Ari applying makeup for glossy lips and eyeshadow.

According to one of the Instagram posts, REM Beauty will be developing “four chapters,” starting with “chapter 1” called “Ultraviolet.” Ariana Grande revealed: “Okay, chapter one: Ultraviolet will include lashes, gloss, lipstick, and liner,” along with three other products that have yet to be revealed.

Having had great success with her fragrances, especially REM Fragrance, which won the Fragrance Foundation’s 2021 Fragrance of the Year Award, Ari’s fans are expecting a sweet and charming brand, like “an intergalactic dream of femininity and power”. In particular, many people also expect the “Ultraviolet” collection to contain violet shades that are quite familiar to Ariana’s style.

Last August, Cosmetify compiled a list of the most successful celebrity cosmetics brands. The rankings were based on four criteria: revenue, age, number of Instagram followers, and mentions on the social network. The points awarded for each criterion were then added together and divided by 4 to give a ranking score.

As expected, Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty came in first with a score of 67.15, earning $570 million in revenue as of last year. Kylie Jenner came in second with a score of 67.05, despite being half the revenue of Fenty Beauty, Kylie Cosmetics still maintained its runner-up position thanks to the appeal and popularity of Kylie Jenner’s name on Instagram. Founded in 2019, Lady Gaga’s Haus Laboratories is also a formidable candidate, having pocketed more than $140 million. Officially starting the game in the summer of 2020, Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty also achieved an impressive $60 million in revenue with more than 2 million mentions on Instagram…
