Song Joong Ki‘s K-movie Bogota: City of the Lost ranked No. 1 on Netflix’s Top 10 chart (non-English film category) upon its global release.
According to top10.netflix.com, the K-movie Bogota: City of the Lost, released worldwide on Netflix on February 4, beat the record of all non-English movies airing on the OTT.
From February 3–9, Bogota: City of the Lost recorded 13 million views. This view count placed the film in second position overall when comparing the metrics of both English and non-English films.
Furthermore, Bogota: City of the Lost ranked No. 1 in 10 countries, including South Korea, Colombia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Singapore, and made it into the Top 10 in 73 countries. It is also important to note that the K-movie has secured the No. 1 spot in Colombia, where the story is set.
Bogota: City of the Lost, released in domestic theaters on December 31, 2024, tells the story of a Korean immigrant who, out of desperation, turns to smuggling in this city of last hope. The story takes place in the aftermath of the IMF crisis, following Guk Hee (Song Joong Ki), who travels to Bogotá, Colombia, from South Korea, the other side of the globe, with new hope for a better future.
Being released almost five years after the filming began, Bogota: City of the Lost faced quite a few obstacles, including the shoot being halted due to Covid-19, to make it to theatres. It ended its theatrical run with a total of 420,000 theatre admissions. Due to its high production costs, including overseas location shoots, the break-even point was reportedly 3 million admissions.
Having struggled at the box office, Bogota: City of the Lost was sold to Netflix and aired on the service just over a month after its theatrical release.
