We are barely halfway through this story, but so much has been going on in “My Dearest Nemesis.” In this week’s episodes, the show brought on a whole new rollercoaster of emotions, from the most endearing and heartfelt confessions to those moments where you can feel your blood pressure rising of anger. However, we still have a long way to go before seeing the ending of this show, so we better prepare for everything that is coming up in the second half of this K-drama. Here are some of the saddest and the sweetest moments from the latest episodes!
Warning: spoilers from episodes 7-8 ahead!
SAD: Baek Su Jeong rejecting Ban Ju Yeon’s confession
Right off the bat, episode seven starts with a gloomy tune as Ban Ju Yeon (Choi Hyun Wook) opens up his heart to Baek Su Jeong (Mun Ka Young) only to be harshly rejected. At first, her reluctance is because she refuses to date someone younger than her, so she avoids him to no end. However, as Yongseong’s chairwoman officially presents Ju Yeon as her grandson and future heir, Su Jeong realizes their differences in status and economic stance are too wide for them to really be in a relationship.
But no matter how heartbroken Ju Yeon might be, he cannot ignore his feelings. Despite the situation being rather awkward, he dares to follow Su Jeong all the way to a family gathering, fearing she would meet with another man. At this point, there’s no other way but to root for Ju Yeon. He could be a little eccentric and over-the-top, but the honesty and vulnerability he shows every time he talks about his feelings is truly admirable, and neither Su Jeong nor we seem to be immune to this charming man.
SAD: Ban Ju Yeon’s grandmother vilifying him again
This K-drama could be a perfect romantic comedy if it weren’t for Ju Yeon’s grandmother. Even if everything she does comes from the pain and grief after losing her only son, the way she treats her grandson is simply unacceptable. She not only pushes him to be perfect in everything he does but also harasses him to the point of showing up unannounced at his home. At this point, we know that Ju Yeon suffers from great trauma after surviving the accident in which his parents died, but the person who has really scarred his life is none other than his grandmother.
So, he does everything in his power to prevent her from finding all his collectible figures and comics. In that moment of crisis, he has no other way but to ask for help from everyone around him. And although he avoids getting caught, he cannot get away from being humiliated once again by the chairwoman. Su Jeong, who ends up witnessing the awful scene, agrees to help him hide his belongings without knowing that this would lead to her finding out he is Black Dragon, putting an end to the whole secret identity plot.
ROMANTIC: Seo Ha Jin opening her heart to Kim Shin Won
If there’s something that relieves us from all the drama that has been going on in this show, it’s the relationship between Seo Ha Jin (Im Se Mi) and Kim Shin Won (Kwak Si Yang). As they are not your typical second-lead couple, they give a refreshing feeling to the viewers. Not only is Ha Jin a strong, independent woman, but she can also be quite caring and sweet when given the chance. On the other hand, even if Shin Won has the reputation of being a player, in reality, he has a big heart when it comes to friendship and love.
So, after joining hands to protect their good friends Su Jeong and Ju Yeon, they naturally end up getting closer together. Despite Ha Jin not being interested in being in a relationship, the honest and comforting presence of Shin Won – even from afar as he respects her decision and takes a step aside – ends up winning her heart. In his case, he couldn’t help but fall deeper and deeper in love with Ha Jin, patiently waiting for her. In that sense, it is great that this K-drama gifts us with couples who aren’t afraid to simply follow their hearts and take a leap of faith with their love.
ROMANTIC: Baek Su Jeong admitting her feelings for Ban Ju Yeon
Another perfectly romantic moment we got during this week’s episodes is none other than Baek Su Jeong finally admitting her own feelings. It wasn’t a secret that she also had feelings for Ju Yeon, but after his confession about their kiss and watching him virtually getting crushed by his grandmother, she could not help but accept the truth: she is in love with Ban Ju Yeon. The moment she realizes this, she has no other choice but to run to him and express all of her feelings.
He might be Yongseong’s future successor, younger than her, and even a bit cringy, but she is willing to accept it all and embrace him with all her heart. After all, Ju Yeon has always shown that he likes her for who she is, and they complement each other quite well, even if people find it suspicious. Becoming Ju Yeon’s biggest secret surely isn’t easy for Su Jeong or him since their relationship could jeopardize their work. But that also shows how deeply in love they are with each other, which hopefully will help them with what’s in store for them next.
ROMANTIC: The beginning of Su Jeong and Ju Yeon’s dating era
Although short-lived, the lovey-dovey moments between our lead couple are everything viewers could ask for. They mix the classic office romance trope with their chaotic dynamic, giving both cuteness and fun every time they try to hide their relationship to their co-workers. They might not be the first nor the last couple who would show this type of romantic comedy, but they are truly making an impression in their own way, which makes it sadder that it didn’t last long.
The bond they clearly share is so precious yet rooted in the same principles as when they were younger, so it is a surprise they didn’t notice it before. But now that the cat is out of the bag and both Su Jeong and Ju Yeon know that they are each other’s first loves, we can only hope the future angst they will go through won’t last long. So we better get some tissues ready for the next episodes of “My Dearest Nemesis”!
