Major League Soccer club attempted to lure Cristiano Ronaldo to the United States before his move to Saudi Arabia

According to journalist Taylor Twellman, Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Sporting Kansas City was heavily invested in bringing Cristiano Ronaldo to the United States.

As per the report (via SPORTbible), the club met with the Portugal forward before he decided to join Al Nassr. Sporting Kansas City reportedly offered Ronaldo an ownership stake in the club, and a cut of jersey sales. The MLS club also planned to set up a meeting between the Portuguese ace and NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes, who plays for Kansas City-based NFL club KC Chiefs, in a bid to lure him to the club.

However, the 39-year-old chose to move to the Middle East, where he signed a lucrative deal worth 200 million per year with the Saudi-based club.
