LeBron James speaks out about Lakers’ weaknesses
Basketball star LeBron James spoke candidly about the Los Angeles Lakers’ problems in this year’s NBA season.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James joined former NBA pro JJ Redick in a conversation to shed light on the team’s struggles heading into the 2023-24 NBA season.
On Mind the Game Pod, James and Redick talked about the Lakers’ current problems, especially their struggles with finishing:
“We were terrible at shooting. The first two months of the season, we couldn’t even hit any shots from the three-point line.”
The Los Angeles Lakers showed signs of instability in their play, as they finished a dismal 24-25 in January. Offensive weakness was the core issue, but they managed to fix it in the second half of the season, finishing with a remarkable 23-10 record.

This change transformed the Lakers from an average offensive team to one of the NBA’s top offensive teams. By the end of the season, they were eighth in the NBA in three-point percentage (37.7%), second in field goal percentage (49.9%), sixth in scoring (118.0 points per game), and second in free throw attempts (18.9 per game).
Superstar LeBron James played a big role in this improvement, posting a career-best 41.0% three-point shooting percentage. However, the team’s success wasn’t just due to James, with significant contributions from D’Angelo Russell (41.5%), Rui Hachimura (42.2%), and Anthony Davis (55.6%).
Despite a late-season resurgence, the Lakers’ playoff journey began in the play-in round, where they clinched a spot but faced a formidable first-round opponent in the defending champion Denver Nuggets.
Despite a strong effort from the Lakers, the Nuggets eventually won the first-round series 4-1, marking an early end to this year’s season for King James and his teammates.
